Naknek home away from home

This week we taught VBS at our home base in Naknek. That means we had a little extra time because we didn't need to pack all of our food, crafts, and personal luggage for the week! Some of the missionaries up here helped us with VBS which gave John the opportunity to work at the Net, Christian coffee hospitality fellowship with internet.

This week we started with 18 kids and ended with 30 kids. Sometimes all in one day too, as kids would show up late which is known as Alaskan time. One day as Katrina and I did puppets we had six more kids come as the puppet show was still going on!

We also said goodbye to lots of people who were up here working at the Net. Which means we also said, “Hello!” to new people coming to help work at the Net and the IT side of things at the radio station.

VBS went well this week and sometimes I forgot we were still in a village. On Friday we have programs for people to come to. We do a program instead of a closing song time. I was reminding the kids that the program is at 3! I forgot to mention that VBS still starts at 1. We had around 5 kids come at 3 on Friday!

It was nice to spend longer amounts of time with the people here in Naknek. We got to go to Wednesday night Bible Study and then had a pizza party! We also got to go on a tour of King Salmon and Naknek as we were looking for bears! To keep ourselves entertained as we were driving we filled up a water gun and shot a couple of people with water! We finally saw a bear at the dump!

The kids this week loved to do relays. It was super entertaining watching them race with water or balloons to try to win it for their team. They were also pretty good at the Bible verses. We had them memorize 2 this week. Exodus 3:12 and Isaiah 43:2. Of course to get them to come on Friday we give them a prize if they are able to say the verse.

This week we will be in Egegik once the fog lifts. Prayers for health would be awesome as some of us are a little under the weather. Hopefully the puppets don't sound like chain smokers the whole week!
